“Don Carlo” by Verdi
For something a little out-of-the-ordinary, why not see a rich, historic opera with depth, intrigue and scandal? “Don Carlo” is described as one of Verdi’s greatest achievements. The opera centers on a love triangle “of epic proportions” that pits the love of its main characters against their senses of duty. In “Don Carlo,” King Philip II of Spain must marry French Princess Elisabeth, though Elisabeth is in love with Philip’s son, Don Carlo.
